ABOUT THE JOB

We currently have opportunities for Intermediate to Senior Civil Engineering Design Technologists based out of our offices in either Victoria, BC or Vancouver, BC. The role includes civil engineering design and drafting, with direct supervision from an engineer, construction inspection, and project support, as well as representing our brand at community events and contributing to a fun working environment. The ideal candidate would be on the pathway to obtaining their PLEng, with roughly 3 - 10 years experience.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Apply complex engineering knowledge, skills and principles, undertaking calculations, writing reports and developing designs using applicable standards for:

  • Stormwater, sanitary, and water supply drawings in support of building core infrastructure for remote communities.
  • Roadworks and multimodal transportation drawings including plans, profiles, sections, and corridors in support of improving urban developments in Indigenous communities.
  • Integrated water and utilities servicing concept plans for subdivision, land development and zoning plans, including detailed design drawings to support approval applications, all to assist in delivering on much-needed housing.
  • Stormwater Management Plans and Erosion and Sediment Control Plans for improved environmental outcomes in enabling growth and development in Indigenous communities.

Coordination with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, subconsultants, and the public, building strong relationships and representing our brand and our values.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience or interest in working closely with Indigenous communities.
  • On the pathway to obtaining PLEng is preferred.
  • Experience with asset management and infrastructure modelling is highly desirable.
  • Relevant degree or technical diploma in engineering, environmental science, or related.
  • 3-10 years previous experience in civil engineering design and drafting.
  • Complete proficiency with AutoDesk Civil 3D.
  • Familiar with MMCD, CCDC and similar construction documents.
  • General awareness, knowledge and familiarity with applicable engineering design and construction codes and standards in BC and Indigenous communities.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Develop and implement asset management strategies, including lifecycle planning, risk-based decision-making, condition assessment, and capital renewal programs for community infrastructure.
  • Lead or support long-range infrastructure planning, servicing studies, and funding applications that inform capital investment decisions.
  • Prepare and/or lead infrastructure master plans for water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation systems that integrate growth, climate resilience, regulation, and community priorities.
  • Develop, update, and apply hydraulic models to support planning, design, operations, and scenario analysis, integrated with GIS and asset datasets.
  • Analyze infrastructure data and develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support evidence-based decision-making using tools such as GIS, Excel, Power BI, SQL, or FME.
  • Provide planning-level and conceptual engineering support for civil infrastructure (pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities, ponds, and roadways), including coordination with operations and regulators.
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and field verification in community settings as required.
  • Collaborate with First Nations staff, leadership, and partners through workshops and engagement sessions, preparing clear, accessible technical materials for diverse audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education & Credentials

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Eligible for, or registered as, a Professional Engineer (required for intermediate and senior levels).

Experience (scaled by level)

  • Junior: Exposure to infrastructure, utilities, GIS, asset management, or modelling.
  • Intermediate: Experience supporting asset management, infrastructure planning, master planning, or hydraulic modelling.
  • Senior: Demonstrated leadership in asset management initiatives, master planning, or hydraulic modelling studies.

Desired Experience & Attributes

    • Experience working with First Nations communities; Indigenous applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
    • Strong interest in community-based infrastructure, capacity-building, and practical implementation.
    • Experience with hydraulic modelling for water, wastewater, or stormwater systems is an asset.

Senior Environmental Engineer/ Division Lead

ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking for an experienced and talented individual to lead our Environmental division—someone with a passion for serving Indigenous communities across the province and a deep commitment to meaningful, community-centered work. As a Senior/ Principal Environmental Engineer at Gwaii Engineering, you will play a key leadership role in guiding a growing team, managing multidisciplinary projects, and driving strategic direction for environmental initiatives. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with mentorship, team development, and collaboration with clients and partners. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in environmental engineering, regulatory knowledge, business acumen, and experience working in or alongside Indigenous communities. This is an opportunity to shape impactful projects and help build lasting environmental and economic resilience throughout British Columbia.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently managing a variety of environmental investigation projects (Phase I, II ESA’s/Stage 1, 2 PSIs II, Detailed Site Investigation, Remediation). 
  • Familiarity and confidence working around the provincial environmental guidelines.
  • Holding a CSAP designation is considered an asset.
  • Project planning, implementation, coordinating fieldwork (in town and out of town). 
  • Review of project budgets and expenses to ensure good project financial performance. 
  • Preparation of reports for due diligence investigations, and submissions to the BC Ministry of Environment & Climate Change Strategy for legal instruments (COC and others). 
  • Preparing environmental proposals and workplans. 
  • Management of federal contaminated sites assessment (CEAA) and remediation projects.
  • Management of provincial regulated projects under the BC Contaminated Sites Regulation (CSR).
  • Provide expert level QA/QC to the work outputs from our environmental partners. Leverage the relationship we have with our partners to expand and achieve beneficial performance metrics to both parties. 
  • Mentorship of junior and intermediate professionals. Developing a department of high performing, highly utilized junior, intermediate and senior professionals that have secure work streams and well defined/function progression pathways. 
  • Experience with hazardous material surveys/mitigation projects is considered an asset. 
  • Management of construction environmental monitoring projects.
  • Business development and client management. 
  • Good judge of character, and ability to select talented and high performing individuals. 
  • Ability to apply their technical skills, while leading with charisma, motivating, and creating a positive and enriching workplace environment. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 15+ years of environmental engineering and consulting experience in BC. Candidates with additional experience will be considered. 
  • University degree in Environmental Science or Engineering. 
  • Professional status or designation (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag.). 
  • Contaminated Sites Approved Professional (CSAP) designation an asset.
  • Team player.
  • Knowledge and experience working with First Nations in BC and/or First Nations membership.
  • Demonstrated project management experience on a variety of small, medium and large projects.
  • Knowledge of working with Federal government environmental regulations (CEAA)

ABOUT THE JOB

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer based out of our offices in either Victoria, BC or Vancouver, BC. This role includes designing and drafting civil projects, coordinating projects, and working closely with developers, First Nations and local governments.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, coordinates and assists on various civil projects for developers, First Nations, and Municipal Governments. 
  • Prepares design briefs, technical reports/memorandums for review, followed by submission to clients and/or various government bodies. 
  • Plans, coordinates and assists on various investigation projects. 
  • Designs and drafts for civil engineering projects. 
  • Works with Civil 3D design software. 
  • Prepares proposals, fee estimates and cost estimates.

  • Works collaboratively with the project managers and multi-discipline design teams. 
  • Completes quality control including drawings, calculations and verification. 
  • Mentors junior engineers. 
  • Reviews and seals own projects and/or the work of the others. 
  • Manages the design and construction of projects and provides input. 
  • Supports business development activities, including proposal responses and client account planning. 
  • Travels to site locations when necessary.

THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY WE SEEK

  • Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized engineering university. 
  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience. 
  • Registered as a P.Eng. 
  • Thorough understanding of Civil 3D software applications and proficiency in MS Office Suite. 
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately. 
  • Possess a thorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions. 
  • Must be a leader and able to guide and lead a team of engineers and designers to deliver high quality work.
